Advantages and disadvantages of seats made of different materials, common materials
Seat materials are divided into many kinds, including fabrics, leather, etc. Leather seats are divided into imitation leather and real leather. Imitation leather materials: such as Alcantara, Artico leather, etc. Real leather: suede, Nappa leather, Dakota leather, Merrino leather, etc.
Fabric seats: Made of chemical fiber, cheap, not easy to age and break, long life, good breathability. Exposure to the sun or low temperature will not feel hot or cold like leather seats, suitable for all seasons. Fabric seats are the most cost-effective and practical
Disadvantages: low-grade, easy to absorb dust, not easy to clean, if sprinkled with liquid, it is difficult to clean.
Imitation leather seats: very similar to leather, not real animal skin, chemical material synthesis. Imitation leather seats look much more upscale than cloth seats, easy to clean, just wipe with wet wipes.
Disadvantages: poor breathability, greatly affected by temperature, hot or cold in summer or winter, if there is no seat ventilation and heating, sitting is a torment.
The prices of imitation leathers of different grades are different, and the prices vary greatly. For example:
Artico leather is an artificial leather that feels very close to real leather, has a soft texture and good comfort. Most of Mercedes-Benz's mid- and low-end models use Artico leather.
Sensatec leather
Sensatec leather used by BMW is an artificial leather, which is a synthetic leather made from leather scraps.
Alcantara is not real leather, but is made of 68% polyester and 32% polyurethane. It has a soft touch, good friction, and excellent grade. It is used in many mid- and high-end brand models. Alcantara is not cheap and is more expensive than ordinary real leather.
Leather seats: mainly animal skins, cowhide, sheepskin and pigskin are the three most commonly used materials. There is no obvious difference in grade between leather seats and imitation leather, and they feel more delicate and soft, and are used in high-end models.
Disadvantages: Leather seats have poor wear resistance, are easy to age, are expensive, and require daily maintenance.
Suede is also called suede. It is the reverse side of cowhide with fluff on the surface. It looks similar to Alcantara material. It feels soft and delicate. It is a leather that shows class.
Disadvantages: Suede and Alcantara are not easy to clean and are not resistant to dirt. Pay attention to maintenance.
Nappa leather: Common seat materials are made of top-layer cowhide, which has a very delicate texture and is commonly used in luxury high-end cars. Of course, Nappa leather cannot escape the disadvantages of poor wear resistance of leather.
Dakota leather: Common leather, it is slightly harder than Nappa leather, and there is a slight difference in delicateness. The advantages are good wear resistance and toughness, stronger friction, and it is often used in luxury and sports models. For example, BMW uses Dakota leather.
Merrino leather is a higher-end leather, more delicate than Nappa leather, more complex craftsmanship, and expensive. It is used in top luxury cars, such as BMW 7 Series, etc.
